An American-made Mother's Day
Our Buy American Mention of the Week!
by Roger Simmermaker
April 28, 2010

One of the reasons we celebrate Mother's Day is to celebrate her, compliment her, and make her comfortable as a way of showing your appreciation for who she is and all the selfless things she does year-round.

And every Mother likes to see her son or daughter proudly and successfully employed to earn a good living, so it follows then that it makes sense to do our part as Americans to give gifts on Mother's Day that provide that American employment while at the same time finding those items that can really put a smile on Mom's face.

A great place to start is pampering your Mother with some of the many selections available though Surgeon's Skin Secret at www.JamarkLabs.com. I just bought my wife a bottle of their Aloe Mint Toner, although it was tough to choose since there were so many great products available on this website. And all the products are made in USA, with the exception of the Comodynes line of tanning products.

Surgeon's Skin Secret (beeswax moisturizer) was developed in 1950 by a plastic surgeon that used it to treat post surgical wounds. The new product kept the wound from infecting, and also helped to reduce scarring. Surgeon's Skin Secret is an all natural beeswax moisturizer, which contains lanolin and mineral oil, and is a revitalizing formula that softens dry, chapped, and irritated skin. It's also non-water soluble (won't wash off easily), seals in the body's natural moisture, and is a long lasting formula.

If your Mother likes to relax in the morning with a hot cup of coffee before starting her day like my wife does, check out the website that offers truly American coffee from tree to cup at www.USACoffeeCompany.com. It's a no-brainer to buy American and help the economy with the money you are already spending anyway if you drink coffee.

Right now, the USA Coffee Company is offering a special. Every item in the gift selection includes an eight ounce bag of Union Roast coffee (bean or ground), one USA Acrylic coffee mug, one 20-count tea pack (including one Hawaiian iced tea), one chai, one cocoa, one cappuccino, and an almondina cookie.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I am a tea drinker, so the fact I can buy truly American tea is especially comforting to know. You can get the entire USA-made Mother's Day gift selection for $49.95 with free USPS Priority Mail shipping. If you live in the south Florida area or are vacationing there, you can visit the first USA Coffee Company coffee shop in Plantation, Florida. Wouldn't it be great to give Starbucks and their foreign-sourced coffee beans a run for their money with a real American coffee shop and store?

If you're looking for an inexpensive but yet very useful gift for Mother's Day, try the best American-made, all natural cuticle oil from www.Rx4Nails.com. It's a great Mother's Day gift for men to purchase since the owner tells me that 30 percent of her customers are now men.

It takes just a couple of drops a day, applied twice daily, and mom will have stronger nails in as little as a week and a half - guaranteed (or your money gets refunded). And it's just $7.29 (includes shipping) for a limited time.

You might also consider a quality, 100 percent soy candle from Sydney Candle Company available at America's Virtual General Store (www.americasvirtualgeneralstore.com). These American-made candles burn at a lower temperature for a longer burn time than traditional paraffin wax candles. And the fragrances - not just the candles - are high quality as well. With these candles, you'll be supporting a small family-owned business in Cortland, Ohio.

American Aisle (www.AmericanAisle.com) has several 24-hour burn and 50-hour burn aromatherapy candles available in a variety of aromas as well. They also offer several patriotic items Mom might like, such as patriotic rhinestone earrings, bracelets, and USA lapel pins. If you're in the Chicagoland area, you can stop in and check out all the American-made products in their brick-and-mortar store to show your support for real American retailing.

Beyond just looking for a great gift for Mom, there are a lot of other things she cares about. The schools her children attend and the libraries they frequent, the hospitals, and the police and fire departments that are there to protect your neighborhood 24/7 are just a few. Buying American-made goods and services produced by American workers and companies fills our federal and state treasuries with tax revenue to support all these benefits and services and many more things like them that Moms count on.
