Put American-Made Gifts Under Your Tree
Our Buy American Mention of the Week!
by Roger Simmermaker
December 8, 2006

Christmas is not only a special time of the year to give to your loved ones and those on your Christmas list. It's also a special opportunity to give and help guarantee prosperity to other Americans you don't know and who aren't on your Christmas list.

The best way to guarantee prosperity for Christmas present and Christmas future is to put American-made products under your Christmas tree this year.

If you're running out of ideas, or are just tired of running to the store only to find items made in other countries, here are a few ideas you may not have considered:

How Americans Can Buy American (second edition) is available through the end of the year for just $10 each. I will personally ship my book to anyone on your Christmas list for you for at this special price. Tax is included and shipping is free. With the third edition of How Americans Can Buy American coming out in 2007, you can be sure that this special offer won't be repeated anytime soon. If you are receiving this email, disregard the prices in the online form. You'll be charged just $10 for each book - tax and postage paid.

You can Shop for America at www.ShopForAmerica.com - one of my favorite Buy American websites - featuring thousands of American-made gifts. Whether it's personal items for men, women, kids and babies, gourmet food, bath & body, or sport & hobby (plus much, much more) you're likely to find it at ShopForAmerica's ever-expanding website.

The USA Coffee Company is also running specials. Try their 100% American-grown coffee, or their newly-introduced Chocolate Expresso Beans!

PattonShirts.com still has quality, 100% cotton, American-made polo shirts for the incredible price of $19.95.

For Union-made apparel and other union-made products, try the Union Jean Company or the Union Shop.

ZebulonUSA.com always has a nice selection of apparel, toys and other American-made products you'll love to give that special someone on your Christmas list.

If you're looking for a bigger gift to make a bigger impression that will save energy and some hard-earned cash for your lucky gift recipient for years to come, check out SETS Systems' tankless water heaters at www.Sets-Systems.com.

For something really creative, unique and new, try www.WhiteCreekTile.com.

Of course there are many other links to American-made websites at www.howtobuyamerican.com, but here are some other individual items made in the USA (and some that are not):

The Simpson's Wheel of Fortune - Made in China
Rock 'm Sock 'm Robots - Made in China

Ker-Plunk - Made in China
Lincoln Logs - Made in China
Nerf Footballs - Made in China

The Price is Right (DVD Edition) - Made in USA

A BIG foreign takeover occurred when Mattel's Wham-O got acquired by Hong Kong-based distributor this past January (according to the Wall Street Journal). Wham-O makes vintage toys like the Frisbee (made in China), Tracball (made in China), Hula Hoop, Superball, Boogie Board, Hacky Sack, Silly String and Water Wiggle. I'm not sure where the other toys (Hula Hoop, etc) are made, but the Wall Street Journal article highlighted that the new company has five Chinese factories and 25,000 Chinese workers. An American alternative to the Hong Kong-owned Hula Hoop would be the American-made Wave Hoop by American-owned Maui Toys, based in Youngstown, OH.

LEGO is Denmark-owned and made in China as well.

Almost all puzzles are made in USA.

Other toys and games ideas:

NordicTrack treadmills are made in USA (I own one)

St. Pierre Horseshoes are made in USA

You can search for dealer locations on their website.

Werner Ladders are made in USA. Louisville Ladders are made in Mexico. The price is nearly the same as I found out buying a large ladder after my home state of Florida got pummeled by three hurricanes in 2004.
